# Does the Score Work? A One-Year Test

Quick answer: We scored 976 Bursa stocks on the data they had a year earlier, under today's rules, then checked the next audited year. Profit-making stocks that scored Strong (80+) turned to a loss in 2 of 75 (3%) cases. Weak ones (under 40): 20 of 93 (22%). Business results only, not share prices, and not a prediction. (test run 18 Oct 2026)

## What happened next, by last year's score

| Score a year ago | Stocks | New loss | Dividend cut | Big share issue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strong | 75 | 2 of 75 (3%) | 14 of 40 (35%) | 2 of 72 (3%) |
| Okay | 602 | 47 of 566 (8%) | 103 of 245 (42%) | 32 of 586 (5%) |
| Weak | 299 | 20 of 93 (22%) | 23 of 40 (57%) | 27 of 281 (10%) |

## Which pillar warned about a new loss

| Pillar | New loss: pillar Strong | New loss: pillar Weak |
|---|---|---|
| Business Strength | 1 of 142 (1%) | 48 of 301 (16%) |
| Financial Safety | 41 of 500 (8%) | 6 of 63 (10%) |
| Cash & Dividends | 3 of 79 (4%) | 40 of 279 (14%) |
| Price Fairness | 7 of 155 (5%) | 41 of 287 (14%) |
| Risk | 5 of 160 (3%) | 22 of 104 (21%) |

## What this test can't tell you

- One year only. A single year can be unusual.
- Today's rules were set knowing recent results, so the test flatters the score a little (hindsight).
- Small groups give jumpy percentages, so every number is shown as “X of Y”.
- Dividends are counted by calendar year, so a payment that moved by a few weeks can look like a cut.
- Not a prediction and not advice. A Strong score can still be followed by a loss.

## Common questions

### Does a high score mean fewer losses the next year?

In this test, yes. Of the profit-making stocks that scored 80+ a year earlier, 2 of 75 (3%) made a loss the next year. Okay: 47 of 566 (8%). Weak: 20 of 93 (22%). That is one year of history, not a promise.

### Which pillar warned least about a new loss?

Financial Safety. Profit-making stocks it rated Strong turned to a loss 8% of the time, against 10% for the ones it rated Weak. Risk split them best: 3% against 21%.

### Does this test look at share prices?

No. It checks business results only: profit, dividends and share count. It says nothing about whether a share price went up or down.

### How was the test run?

Each of 976 stocks was scored on the accounts, quarters and share price that were public when its older annual report came out, under today's rules. Then the next audited year was checked for a new loss, a dividend cut of more than 10%, and a share count up more than 10% (splits and bonus issues left out).

### How often is this test redone?

Once a year, after the next full year of audited results. Each run is saved as its own edition and never changed. This one was run on 18 Oct 2026.
